Arch and his lovely wife Sarah came into my life by accident! We met in the local library as they came to use the public computer and I came to fix my laptop - a smile, short conversation and I gained two of the most interesting friends in my life!

I actually met Lynn through her Mom. She came to the New Salem Mountain Festival faithfully and purchased some of my handwoven wares! Another smile, conversation and I made a lifelong friend who was very encouraging in my walk of faith as well as my art endeavors!

Our lives are but fine weaving
That God and we prepare,
Each life becomes a fabric planned
And fashioned in His care.

We may not always see just how
The weaving intertwines,
But we must trust the Masters hand
And follow His design.

For He can view the pattern
Upon the upper side,
While we must look from underneath
And trust in Him to guide.

Sometimes a strand of sorrow
Is added to His plan,
And though it's difficult for us,
We still must understand.

That it's He who fills the shuttle
It's He who knows what's best,
So we must weave in patience
And leave to Him the rest.

Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needed
In the Weaver's skillful hand,

I'm excited about getting back to my loom - it's only been 3 months since I closed the Studio house and moved everything out. I brought my Harrisville loom and all my wheels home. All my yarn, fiber and supplies have been sitting in the garage - waiting to see daylight again! Now, I'm slowly getting unpacked. Gracie is helping me sort my yarns into the bins and shelves lining the walls. My sewing table is up too! The loom is warped for Boundweave and I think that's a good place to start. Although I still haven't found my graph paper or the patterns I had previously planned to use. I think spring will be the perfect time to weave a "WILD Flower" wall hanging in my brightest colors to celebrate this fantastic year I'm having!!!

USFS Passport in Time project - Civil War survey

Passport In Time
I was so fortunate to be able to participate in this program. I worked with USFS archaeologists and other volunteers to survey 3 potential battle sites for designation on the National Register of Historic Places. Wow, what a learning experience it was for me. Taylor's Ridge, Dug Gap and Chestnut Mountain were the sites we worked. The weather was really rough starting out at 24 degrees on several mornings and reaching a high of 40 most days. We had snow cover one day. The terrain was rough too. We were all metal detecting and the brush was so thick it was hard to push through. One of the main areas was 1800 ft., so we were climbing this mountain through very rocky terrain, while trying to hang on to our equipment. It was exhausting. But it was exciting work too! Our teams worked together with an experienced 'detector' who could help us identify the items we found. Then we would log it with a GPS location for later mapping. It was an opportunity of a lifetime - one I hope to repeat in the coming months!

Our plan - our anniversary

The last weeks of January were busy, busy! Robert and I drove down to Cartersville, GA to the Booth Museum of Western Art to see the Ansel Adams exhibit! It's a very cool museum, Adams work was inspirational as always! Then we were off to celebrate our 31st anniversary at MY favorite place - Brasstown Bald Mountain. It was still snow covered and beautiful as we hiked part of Jack's Knob Trail on Saturday, shopped at Alexanders store, then had a delicious reuben at Fatz! On Sunday we went to Blood Mountain to hike, but it was toooo crowded, couldn't even find a parking spot. So we drove over to Unicoi Gap and hiked there. We bought a book and maps to plan our trip hiking the Appalachian Trail in GA and NC! I'm so thrilled he wants to do this with me! We are not 'performance' hikers - we prefer to amble along and enjoy the beauty of our mountains. It was a 'perfect weekend'.

Spiced Salmon Patties

I made a new recipe for an old favorite at our house!

1 15 oz can salmon, remove bones, drain
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon sweet basil
1 teaspoon marjoram

Mix all ingredients well. Brown lightly in extra virgin olive oil. (appx. 5 minutes) salt to taste.

I served these patties with sugar snap peas, steamed herb rice, and cornbread. The whole meal took about 20 minutes to prepare! The cornbread was leftover, but a nice garlic toast would go well with the meal. Enjoy!

New Year 2011 - Revolutions!

No, my title is not misspelled - I don't do "resolutions". When I make a change, it's more like a REVOLUTION, just ask my dear hubby! Ha, ha. I have promised him - no more major moves in 2011. So we almost have the studio empty. My nephew & wife need a place to live while they are building their house a few miles away. If they decide not to take it, I will do a "weekend B&B" while waiting to see if Colin & Lesley need it after graduation/wedding in July. That depends on their job situation.
Bare-Walls?
I am planning a few classes in spinning, fiber ed, needle felting and weaving @ BARE WALLS? 117 Gordon Street, Chickamauga, GA. Open Tues - Sat, 11:00 - 5:30. It's a gallery, antique and frame shop. My good friend, Oliver is there everyday. I will try to keep you posted on inventory and dates available there!
I will be teaching basic weaving classes @ UTC starting in March through their Adult Education program. When I get the catalog information, I'll post it here also!
We have already experienced miracles in 2011 with my Dad's health situation. I can't wait to see what more God has planned for us! Thank you all for your prayers!

Recipe: Lemon Butter Tarts

Lemon Butter Tarts

3 whole eggs w/yolks

1 ¼ c. sugar

1/8 t salt

Dash nutmeg

½ cup lemon juice

¼ cup butter, melted

1 t grated lemon rind

12 – 2 ½ inch tart shells, or 1 large pie shell

In a small bowl, beat eggs and sugar until thick and pale yellow. Beat in salt and nutmeg; gradually add lemon juice, then melted butter. Stir in grated rind and pour into top of double-boiler. Cook over simmering water, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens, about 12 to 15 minutes. Cool; pour into baked tart shells. Serve at room temperature or chilled.

Additional suggestion: top with whipped cream.

Studio Moving Sale

Wow, I can't believe it's 10 days till Christmas! There's still so much to do. I'm packing up the Studio, moving my HD 22" loom, Elizabeth wheel, and fiber to my house. The rest will be sold in my booth @ Bare Walls (Chickamauga) If you want knitting or weaving supplies, needle felting fiber, come see me there!
I have several used looms and a White serger (model 1634) for sale too - clearance priced! Spin-Off, Crochet, Knitting, mags, books, Daisy needles, and of course YARNS!!

Wow what an eventful spring, summer and most of the fall! Just goes to show, you never know where you'll end up when you say "Yes Lord, I'll do it!". When I left you in May, I opened the Dixie Diner in Chickamauga, GA. It was a cool little sandwich shop in the historic downtown area with lots of atmosphere. Loved the experience, the people, the opportunities to witness & fellowship, GOOD TIMES! Thanks to all you home folks who supported me! Little is much, when God is in it and it quickly became 'too much' for me to handle. So, God sent a family (3 lucky sisters) to take over and I wish them much success!
Now I'm resting and taking care of my 'poor neglected family' until God puts another adventure in the works! I'm spinning, weaving, knitting and cleaning while enjoying time with Gracie, my children and Mother & Daddy. We have so much to look forward too.
